Meet the DB Ambassadors: Madelyn Floyd

We are proud to introduce our 2019 Ambassadors! We have 20 amazing equestrians on board this year to share and promote DB. Meet Madelyn...

My name is Madelyn, I’m a 16 y/o eventer from Duvall, WA. I’ve been competitively riding for 5 years, but took pony lessons for years before that! I train out of my family’s facility Hawkwind Farm with my coach Jordan Linstedt. Despite being based in Washington, I travel up and down the coast for shows, sometimes across the country! While at shows I groom for Jordan and sometimes get to ride sales horses.

Last year I spent 3 months away living on the east coast to train and compete. I had the privilege of riding with and against some of the top riders in the country! Later in the summer I hauled down to California and made the trek to the AECs in Colorado. Area VII events will always be important to me, but it’s definitely fun to experience eventing in other areas!

I do actually attend regular high school (I’m a sophomore this year) despite being frequently absent. I spend most of my time juggling schoolwork and riding, as well as blogging for Eventing Nation. Outside of riding I am attempting to pursue ambitions in creative and journalist writing, although I’ve yet to have a big breakthrough.

Tell us about your horses...
I’ve owned a few horses over the years, but currently own two mares. Clementine ( aka Tini) is a 9 y/o Hanoverian whom I bought 2 years ago. She was originally born in Germany, but was then sold to Hungary and eventually imported to the U.S.. I found her in CA with limited competition experience for her age, and have since moved up the levels with her! Beyond being very talented and hot, Tini has a condition called Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy Type 2, variant 8, also known as PSSM2 P8. This condition does not hinder Tini, she just needs a highly regulated diet and an attentive eye to stay comfortable. She loves jumping and has one of the best gallops I’ve ever ridden! Despite being a warmblood, I always get comments after cross country asking if she is a thoroughbred! Over the past two years Tini and I have climbed from training level to intermediate level as well as FEi CCI3*-S. Tini has become a very loyal partner and trusted friend, I wouldn’t trade her for the world!

Overly Embellished (aka Ella), is a 4 y/o OTTB I met only last fall. She is very hot and has lots of sass about life. She boasts wonderful gaits and a brave, scopey jump, as well as a huge buck. The bigger the buck the bigger the jump right? Ella has been a bit of a tough one to crack and is currently being trained to be ridden. Although she has been difficult and spooky, I’m confident she will become a fabulous event horse like Tini!

What are your 2019 riding goals?
This 2019 season I’m working towards qualifying for the CCI3*-S team at NAYC with Tini, as well as compete in our first CCI3*-L. For Ella, I want to give her a confident experience at her first horse shows this spring. I would ideally like to compete in the YEH 4 y/os with her this summer, but that will depend on her confidence under saddle and where her training is at.

What does being a Dapplebay Ambassador mean to you?
I am very excited to be on DB’s team! I have always been a big believer in follow your dreams no matter what, as well as having fun doing it! Representing a brand that promotes positivity and ambition is something I deeply cherish. I want to help make the equestrian community a more welcoming and positive place for all, just as Dapplebay encourages!
